The communication needs of care home residents with dementia and hearing loss are seldom met. This month's Centre for Dementia seminar welcomes Dr Brian Crosbie (Research Fellow, University of Nottingham) to introduce the ORCHARD study and its findings.

"Optimising hearing communication for care home residents with dementia and hearing loss"

Wednesday 11 July 2018, Room A06/A07 Institute of Mental Health

11.30am – 12.30pm

Hearing loss is often perceived as an inevitable result of ageing, with low priority towards maintaining individual’s hearing. To address hearing communication, the ORCHARD study conducted a realist review of available literature and expert understanding to develop a theory of how care homes could manage hearing communication better. The review results will be used to inform guidelines and practical interventions in care homes.

The Centre for Dementia hold regular seminars exploring areas of dementia-related research. Seminars are free to attend, but places must be booked in advance.
