Multi-coloured hands

Professor Paul Crawford, from the IMH’s Centre for Social Futures, has had his latest programme of work published and promoted in partnership with the Mental Health Foundation.

The programme has demonstrated the power of using creative activities to benefit people experiencing mental health difficulties, as well as benefits to family carers joining them, and particularly the benefits to the professionals who are delivering the creative activity.

Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, this new work used rigorous research methods across a variety of creative projects: painting and sculpture, film-making, comedy, dancing and music-making. As increasing pressure is placed on our mental health services, creative arts activities could be an effective new way to meet demand.
