This section illustrates how the Institute of Mental Health is involved in furthering the field of knowledge about mental health and supporting clinical innovation.  Research in mental health is critical in helping us understand what works, what is effective, what is safe, and improving ‘service-facing’ care and treatment.

The Research Funding area provides information about research and funding opportunities, the process for authorising applications and advancing them in line with corporate guidelines.

Research Governance sets out details on the responsibilities and standards that must be applied to research conducted by the Institute within the NHS or social care settings.  Governance is the process for promoting and assuring high quality research in health and social care.  This area includes information on the Research Governance Framework and the East Midlands Hub of the UK Mental Health Research Network.

More than 40 Managed Innovation Networks (MINs) have been established by the Institute and details of these are contained within this section.  MINs are designed to bring researchers, clinicians and service-users together to innovate and improve services through the latest knowledge in the field of mental health.
