One in four people will develop a mental health problem at some point during their lives.  Mental distress can range from mild depression or anxiety to conditions such as bipolar disorder (manic depression) or schizophrenia where individuals may experience psychosis.

The Institute of Mental Health was launched in 2006 to help transform our understanding and treatment of mental illness.  We are a partnership between Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and the University of Nottingham and we are one of the leading mental health institutes in the UK, offering leadership and innovation backed by world class expertise.

Pictures of Success

The Institute of Mental Health has published their first annual report.

Professor Nick Manning, Director of the Institute commented, “I am proud to see the first annual report for the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) in Nottingham. It gives a brief flavour of our activities, our recent achievements and our future aspirations. We have grown rapidly. We have 120 formal members and more than 150 staff, including 20 full professors. This has also only been achievable with the support and vision of our joint sponsors, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and the University of Nottingham. They have taken the risks involved with such a new venture, and we celebrate with them the benefits that are already flowing from our joint work.”
