Academic Board

Academic Board Lead: Professor Nick Manning

The Academic Board was set up in 2004 within Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust to award postgraduate diplomas, initially for graduates of its Leadership Programme, Development for Leaders. This programme was run by the Trust in association with the Open University Business School, and the Academic Board was licensed by the Open University Validation Service (OUVS). This is the only Academic Board that exists within the NHS to have been fully licensed to award Open University diplomas.

Subsequently the Academic Board received a further licence from the OUVS to award bachelors and masters degrees from 2009, in particular to award these degrees in the area of personality disorder studies, for which the Institute of Mental Health had a contract from the Department of Health to develop a Knowledge and Understanding Framework for personality disorder. These degrees are being launched in 2010.

The Academic Board is licensed to expand the areas in which it can offer Open University awards in future, and a number of other degrees are under consideration.
