Head of Section: Professor Peter Liddle
The Mind, Brain and Developmental Sciences Section promotes research into the mental and neuronal mechanisms of mental disorders with the goal of increasing understandings of the nature of these disorders, improving the reliability of diagnosis and enhancing treatment. It focuses on interactions between neurobiological, psychological and social development throughout the lifespan.
The population served by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is very suitable for recruitment of epidemiologically representative patient samples, and where appropriate, population-based samples are investigated. The techniques employed include clinical observation, brain imaging with MRI and fMRI, EEG and cognitive psychology. The Section fosters collaboration with local researchers sharing similar interests in the Nottingham Neuroscience Institute and the Brain Body Centre and participates in multi-centre projects via the Mental Health Research Network and international collaborations.
