Head of Section: Professor Chris Hollis

Research in child and adolescent mental health and paediatric psychology is an area of major strength in Nottingham. Key research themes include attention deficit hyperactivity disorder - ADHD (Groom, Hollis & Sayal), Tourette Syndrome (Jackson & Hollis), developmental epidemiology and trials (Glazebrook, Hollis & Sayal), and behavioural aspects of child health (Glazebrook & Tischler).

Forensic

Head of Section: Professor Conor Duggan

Forensic mental health research covers the understanding, assessment, and treatment of people with personality disorders, focusing on those who offend. We have many research interests which include understanding the links between personality disorder and dysfunction, including offending and prediction, management and treatment of violent behaviour.

In the Health, Behaviour and Society section we bring together a wide range of disciplines to focus on research and practice development. By encouraging academics from the social sciences and humanities to work alongside health service and medical researchers, we hope to foster creative collaborations.

Innovation and Business Development

Head of Section: Gerry Carton

The Innovation and Business Development Section’s key function is to identify and exploit new business opportunities for the Institute. To deliver this function the Section fosters partnerships with other academic institutions, health, social care and criminal justice services and voluntary organisations, both nationally and internationally. These business opportunities will be varied and are likely to include education and training commissions, service development activity, consultancy and conferences.

Head of Section: Professor Patrick Callaghan

The Learning and Teaching Section offers multi-professional, postgraduate education designed to enhance graduates' capability to lead and deliver services that promote mental health, well-being and social inclusion, enable people to recover from mental distress, and ensure that mental health professionals remain fit for practice.

Mind, Brain and Development

Head of Section: Professor Peter Liddle

The Mind, Brain and Developmental Sciences Section promotes research into the mental and neuronal mechanisms of mental disorders with the goal of increasing understandings of the nature of these disorders, improving the reliability of diagnosis and enhancing treatment. It focuses on interactions between neurobiological, psychological and social development throughout the lifespan.

Personality Disorder Institute

Head of Section: Professor Eddie Kane

The Personality Disorder Institute seeks to be a centre of excellence devoted to the research of personality disorder and the national centre devoted to the training of all staff involved in the treatment of severe personality disorder.The PDI is in the process of being hosted within the new Centre for Health and Justice.
